A/C fan resistor

Postby livelarg on Wed Jul 12, 2006 12:23 am

My A/C Fan is only working on high and low. I pretty sure that it is the fan resistor that is broken. I already bought a new one, but I don't know where it goes. Anyone know how to replace it? I did a search and can't find anything on the previa.

thanks
Kent

Hi Kent,

Not sure how I missed your post, but I'm seeing it now for the 1st time. Losing the middle fan speeds on the Previa is common. The 1st time it happend to me, I changed that resistor pack too.....but still had the problem. It turned out to be the fan switch itself. I've also had that same problem on my other 2 Previa's & both of those also turned out to be the switch. If you still want to replace that resistor pack, you get to it from under the hood. You have to take the plastic air intake stuff apart to get enough access. It's mounted to the housing with the blower motor. Tim

Hey Tim,

My low speed just went out on my '88.
Probable fan switch also?

It's been my experience that the fan switch is the weak link on the Previas, but the resistor pack is usually the problem on the earlier model vans. Tim

It may be the switch, but I already bought the resistor. My 4runner had the same problem, and it turned out to be the resistor, so I figures it was the same problem. So I am going to go ahead and install the resistor.

How hard is it to replace the switch? and where is a good place to get one?

thanks for the help
